Mini announced that it will be adding production this summer under contract at VDL Nedcar in the Netherlands to supplement production from its home base in Oxford, England. The BMW unit is expecting the Dutch production to reach "five figures" by the end of the year and the plant will supplement the Mini Hardtop, Coupe, Convertible, Roadster and Clubman models produced in England for sale globally including the United States. Oxford currently builds about 260,000 Minis per year.

It’s not the first time Mini has contracted out production. Its Countryman and Paceman models, which are also sold in the U.S., are built by MSF in Graz, Austria. That facility produces about 125,000 units per year.
The expansion, which coincides with the launch of the next generation of Mini on a new front-drive platform shared by BMW, is part of an overall strategy of the German automaker to sell 2 million vehicles per year.
