Mini Offers Artist-Designed Roofs for Limited Time

“”Mini has long given car shoppers more chance to express themselves through the look of their cars than most other automakers. Since its 2001 appearance in the U.S. market under the auspices of BMW, the Mini Cooper has offered distinctive roofs, mirror caps, taillights, and other customizable design elements that buyers can mix and match to create their own unique-looking car. The brand’s contrast-color roofs kicked off a design trend that has now reached nearly every other automaker.

Mini is stepping up the game.

For a limited time, the company is offering three new custom roof designs for its 2-door and 4-door hardtops.

The move comes in celebration of National Immigrants Day, October 28. Each is the work of a first-generation American artist.

“MINI is a story of immigrants,” the company explains. Original Mini Cooper designer Alec Issigonis immigrated to the U.K. from Greece before penning the ’60s classic. “MINI is now sold in 109 countries around the world,” the company notes, “and is a car that has been proudly owned by multiple generations, of nationalities and backgrounds, all of whom have made the brand uniquely their own.”

Funds from the sale of the three designs will support the American Immigration Council.

A Mini spokesperson tells us the roofs will go on sale on November 1 at shopminiusa.com. The automaker expects to form a waiting list. Prices will be determined soon. Mini plans to “produce a very small number,” and “sell them until they officially sell out,” he says.
