Mercedes-Benz will be dropping its most high-performance model for the 2021 model year. The AMG GT-R will leave the market soon – December 29 is the last day to place an order for the 585-horsepower, twin-turbo V8-powered beast. But don’t mourn. A faster model will soon take its place.
The AMG GT Black Series will replace that motor with a 720-horsepower version that lays its cylinders flat, rather than in the traditional V shape. The Black Series carries less weight and a higher price tag, coming in at $325,000. A giant rear wing, an electronically-adjustable front splitter, and an enlarged grille set it apart visually from the rest of the AMG lineup.
For those who don’t want to spring for the track-tuned Black Series, the base AMG GT returns for 2021 with its own power bump. It now puts out 523 horsepower, good for a 3.7-second ride to 60 mph. Pricing stats at $117,000 for this, allegedly tamer, model.
