Adding a dash of style to its roadster family, Mercedes-Benz is introducing special editions of its 2017 SL450 and SL550 and 2018 SLC300 and AMG SLC43. The respective SL Designo and SLC RedArt option packages incorporate custom trim work and paint schemes to emphasize the exclusivity and interior design of the SL and the sporty dynamics of the smaller SLC. The quartet is expected in showrooms this summer with pricing released closer to the on-sale date.
At the top of the range, the 2017 SL450 and SL550 models outfitted with the Designo special edition package are offered in a choice of Brilliant Blue or Cardinal Red metallic paint schemes with 19-inch front and 20-inch rear AMG 10-spoke forged wheels. Additional chrome brightwork in the bumpers adds a bit more flash along with the Designo badging on the front fenders.
Inside, the seats and center console are upholstered in Porcelain colored Nappa leather with black contrast elements. This theme is carried out through the cabin to include the contrasting leather treatment on the steering wheel as well as the use of the Porcelain scheme on the seatbelts and roof liner. Heated and cooled seats along with the Airscarf neck-level heating for driver and passenger are fitted with an active seat that includes a massage function and dynamic side bolsters for additional support while cornering. Adaptive cruise control with steering pilot, active brake assist, blind spot and lane keeping warning and assists are also standard.
SLC RedArt emphasizes dynamics
The smaller 2018 Mercedes SLC300 RedArt and AMG SLC43 Performance Studio RedArt models take their cues from the special edition name by using gloss red exterior accents on the front spoiler, intake arches, rear diffuser and side fins. The SLC300 car is finished in Selenite Gray Metallic paint and the 2-seater rides on 18-inch 5-spoke wheels executed in polished silver. Large cross-drilled brake rotors are clamped by red calipers with Mercedes-Benz lettering on the front set. Inside, the RedArt package includes black Nappa leather upholstery with contrasting Silver Pearl leather inserts and red stitching along with the RedArt logo embroidered on the headrests. Carbon-fiber-look leather is used on the sport steering wheel and headrest.

The more performance oriented AMG SLC43 model has a matte finish Selenite Gray Magno exterior set off by the aforementioned red exterior accents. This model has 18-inch AMG 10-spoke light alloy wheels in gloss black with red rim flanges as well as red brake calipers adorned with the AMG logo. The interior is similar to the SLC300 with black Nappa leather offset by Silver Pearl inserts. Standard equipment includes heated seats as well as Mercedes’ Airscarf neck-level heating for both driver and passenger.
