Mercedes-Benz EQB Recalled Over Fire Risk

2023 Mercedes-Benz EQB

Mercedes-Benz has recalled 7,362 EQB electric SUVs from model years 2022-2024 because a short circuit in their high-voltage batteries could trigger a fire.

The company tells the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that the move affects only some, not all, EQBs because of “variations during an early stage production period at the supplier.”

If an owner is driving when a fault occurs, Mercedes says, they’ll see a high-voltage battery malfunction warning message. “Should the thermal incident occur while the vehicle is parked, the driver would not receive a warning.”

The company knows of no incidents of fire or warranty claims in the United States but an undisclosed number in the Chinese market.

Dealers will update battery management software to fix the problem. Software updates are often quick service appointments.

By law, dealers never charge for recall-related repairs.

Automakers recall many cars, often more than once, during their lifespan. Automakers try to contact every owner but don’t always reach them all. Find out whether your vehicle has any outstanding recalls with the easy VIN tool at our recall center.
