Mazda Trims Entry-Level CX-9 for 2023

2022 Mazda CX-9 profileThe 2023 Mazda CX-9 carries a starting price more than $3,000 higher than the outgoing 2022 model, but it’s an optical illusion. Mazda has dropped the base Sport model from the lineup because few buyers were interested in it.

That leaves the Touring edition, with its leather-trimmed seats (in black or sand) and power liftgate, as the new base model. It has gone up in price by $970 for the new model year. But the added scratch gets you a new standard power moonroof, fog lights, and wireless phone charger.

Otherwise, the CX-9 comes into 2023 with no noteworthy changes. Prices are up about $800 to $900 at every trim level. The change seems to be due to simple inflation, as most trim levels carry over from the 2022 model year.

Our test drivers found the CX-9 one of the most enjoyable 3-row SUVs to drive but noted that the third row is cramped and unsuitable for adults. It offers lively handling and exceptional interior build quality, suiting Mazda’s near-luxury reputation.
