Mazda’s world debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show will be a fairly significant makeover of its midsize Mazda6 sedan. This is the third update of this Mazda mainstay since its introduction in 2012. This freshening includes both mechanical and styling upgrades.

In addition to introducing fuel-saving cylinder deactivation on its normally aspirated 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine, Mazda will also be adding a direct injected turbocharged version of that engine to the lineup, offering performance on par with several V6s offered by competitors.

The design upgrades on the Mazda6 are described as bringing “Mature Elegance” to the car in the form of a higher quality feel to both the exterior and interior appointments. One of these elements is the use of Japanese Sen Wood as a cabin accent. This wood is often used in traditional Japanese musical instruments and furniture.

In addition to the material and mechanical upgrades, the new Mazda6 will offer a wider range of i-Activesense safety technologies as well as a radar-based adaptive cruise control that has stop/start capability. A 360-degree view monitor will also be added to the available feature set.
