Mazda Recalls CX-90 Over Sudden Automatic Braking

2024 Mazda CX-90 in Artisan Red Metallic on GMR.

Mazda has recalled 9,914 CX-90 SUVs from model year 2024 because their automatic emergency braking systems can activate without a trigger, suddenly braking the cars for no reason.

Mazda tells federal safety officials, “The automatic braking system may falsely detect a vehicle’s reflection as an approaching object (such as a diagonal metal wall or similar object on the side of the road).” That can cause the vehicle to panic stop on its own.

The company says it is not aware of any accidents or injuries caused by the sudden stops.

Dealers will fix the problem with a software update. Recall repairs are always free.

Automakers recall many cars to fix safety defects, sometimes more than once. They try to notify every owner to ask them to bring the vehicle in for repair, but they rarely reach them all. Millions of vehicles on American roads need free recall repairs. To find out if your car is one of them, check the easy VIN tool at our recall center.
