Electric Car Rebates and Incentives: What to Know by State

If you own an electric car or want to purchase one soon, you’ll need to know what EV incentives exist to help defray costs. Many states offer rebates and tax deductions, like electricity rate discounts or bill credits, to make the transition to electric vehicles more attractive. These bonuses can also apply to plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), fuel-cell electric vehicles (FCEVs), electric motorcycles, and more.

This article outlines the incentives available in each state. Many offers have eligibility requirements, such as income limits, battery-size minimums, and manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) caps. Because state incentives continue to evolve, we will update as new information becomes available.

The federal clean vehicle tax credits are no longer available for most new purchases. The New Clean Vehicle Credit and Previously Owned Clean Vehicle Credit are not available for vehicles acquired after September 30, 2025. Vehicles placed in service after that date may qualify only if the buyer entered into a binding written contract and made a payment on or before September 30, 2025. Buyers should consult IRS guidance or a tax professional before assuming eligibility.
