The longest-range electric vehicle (EV) today is also one of the most luxurious. The 2022 Lucid Air Dream Edition travels 520 miles on a single charge and boasts a supercar-like 1,111 horsepower.
It’s sold out. That briefly left startup EV builder Lucid without a model with four-figure horsepower. The horror.
That brief nightmare is over. Lucid has introduced a new trim level for its Air sedan. The Grand Touring Performance edition makes 1,050 horsepower, seats four in opulent surroundings, and gets from 0-60 mph in just 2.6 seconds.
You’ll pay a bit of a range penalty for not being quick enough to nab the Dream Edition. The Grand Touring Performance manages just 446 miles between charges – still well over the longest-range Model S from Tesla. And it won’t come cheap. Lucid asks $179,000 plus a $1,500 destination fee for the new model.
Notably, that’s about $10,000 more than the asking price of the Dream Edition was. Prices of high-end EVs are rising quickly. Last year alone, the price of the Tesla Model S jumped by nearly 40%. It pays to act quickly with luxury electric cars, which usually sell for non-negotiable fixed prices.
