Lincoln has issued a recall for 23,111 Aviator SUVs from model year 2025 because their power windows may not reverse when they encounter an obstacle. That can cause injuries if a passenger’s hand is in the way.
The problem occurs only when owners use a “global close” feature to close all windows simultaneously. Lincoln tells federal safety officials that engineers didn’t design the 2025 Aviator to have a global close feature. But a supplier provided window motors equipped for it.
Because the company didn’t plan for it, the software that controls window closing logic wasn’t configured to control it properly.
To fix the problem, dealers will update the software to account for the global close feature. These vehicles can’t receive software updates remotely, so owners must bring them to the dealership to have the patch installed.
