Lincoln Nautilus Recalled Over Hands-off Detection System

Ford Motor Company is recalling 1,013 Lincoln Nautilus SUVs from model year 2019 because the hands-off detection warning may fail.

The company told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that certain vehicles did not receive the correct software update under recall notice 19V-031, intended to address a failure of the lane center assist system to trigger a hands-off-the-wheel warning.

According to Ford, “the Adaptive Front Steering (AFS) mass offset/inertia and upstream steering friction may cause higher-than-expected torque to be applied to the steering wheel. This torque could be misinterpreted as the driver’s hands on the wheel.”

If drivers keep their hands off the wheel for a prolonged period, the system may fail to properly alert them, increasing the risk of a crash. To fix the issue, dealers will install the correct software update for the power steering control module (PCM). There is no charge for this service.

There have been no reported accidents or injuries related to this issue. Owners of affected vehicles will be notified beginning July 6, 2026.

While automakers do their best to notify every vehicle owner affected by a recall, they may not reach everyone. Discover whether your vehicle has any outstanding recalls by checking the easy-to-use vehicle identification number (VIN) tool at our recall center.
