Lexus Recalls LX SUVs Over Issue That Can Affect Airbag

Lexus is recalling 15,264 Lexus LX SUVs from model years 2022-2024 due to a potential defect with the front passenger seat frames that can ultimately affect airbag deployment.

Toyota estimates that approximately 30% of these vehicles may have insufficient clearance between the seat frame and stopper. If the clearance is insufficient, interference can occur between the seat frame and stopper, leading to an incorrect occupant load calculation for airbag deployment. If the affected vehicle sensor does not measure occupant load correctly, the front passenger airbag may not function as intended in a crash, according to a filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

All known owners of these vehicles will be contacted and asked to return their LX to a Lexus dealer. Dealers will inspect the car, and if necessary, replace the seat frame assembly.

Millions of cars are recalled, sometimes more than once. While automakers do their best to notify every vehicle owner affected by a recall, they don’t always reach everyone. To check whether your vehicle might be subject to a recall, use the easy tool at our recall center. All you need is your VIN, license plate, or year, make, and model of your car to get started.
