Lexus Teases Design Aspects of All-New 2022 NX SUV

The Lexus NX is due for a wheels-up redesign for the 2022 model year. Toyota’s luxury division is revealing the new compact luxury SUV slowly, with a series of images that show parts of the car.

The NX is Lexus’s second best-selling vehicle. But the compact luxury SUV segment has increased dramatically in both quantity and quality since its 2014 debut. It still offers bulletproof Lexus reliability and strong resale values. But it’s less exciting to drive, and to look at, than newer competitors like the BMW X3 or Cadillac XT4.

The 2021 edition of the NX starts at $37,610, plus a $1,025 destination charge. A price bump is to be expected with a redesign.

With that in mind, we’re expecting a significant makeover. A teaser shot of the new SUV’s rear, placed in front of Mount Fuji to emphasize its Japanese pedigree, hints at an all-new look. It shows a light bar stretching across the hatch, with the Lexus name spelled out in place of the old familiar L badge.

A second teaser shows the front wheel well, featuring a new set of thin-spoked alloy wheels with a high shine. The front bumper appears to have a jutting lower lip.

A final teaser shows the car in profile but completely shadowed. It’s visibly an evolution of the current NX and appears to have a character line in the hood extending up from the sides of the grille.

It’s not a lot to go on, but Lexus says the rest of the model will be unveiled on July 12. The NX shares a platform with the Toyota RAV4, so it could get a version of the plug-in hybrid powertrain that drives the RAV4 Prime.
