Build-out of the V10-powered Lexus LFA supercar officially came to an end last week when the last of the 500 scheduled units was completed at the automaker’s dedicated Motomachi production facility in Aichi Prefecture. A hand-picked team of 170 workers took part in the manufacturing, assembly and painting processes for the LFA program, and while this pioneering two-year undertaking has now concluded, the automaker promises engineering lessons learned from the experience along with in-house production knowledge of CFRP (Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic) components that were key elements in the LFA will directly influence the development of future Lexus vehicles. Unfortunately, there are no plans at present to create a direct successor to the LFA.
As the final example – a white variant and one of just 50 LFAs fitted with the track-oriented "Nürburgring" package — left the production line, the project’s chief engineer, Haruhiko Tanahashi noted, "I’ve lived and breathed supercars for the past decade. Specifically one supercar: LFA. Very few people have the opportunity we had to create a world-class supercar from a blank sheet of paper."
