Land Rover Reveals Swanky 2023 Discovery Metropolitan Edition

Land Rover is taking its Discovery 7-seat SUV further into luxury territory with a new Metropolitan Edition. With ultra-premium features, like 4-zone climate control and a powered and heated third row, it makes Discovery one of the most upscale SUVs available without reaching six figures.

But, with a $75,300 sticker, the Metropolitan Edition is the most expensive Discovery by a considerable margin. That price leaves the Discovery competing with high-luxe 7-seaters like the Mercedes-Benz GLS and BMW X7 for the first time. It also infringes on Range Rover Sport territory.

The Metropolitan Edition is easy to spot. It replaces the Discovery’s black grille with a silver-accented style Land Rover calls Bright Atlas. Hakuba Silver lower bumper details and 22-inch diamond turned alloy wheels in gloss grey further mark it.

Inside, the Metropolitan edition carries equipment not found on any other Discovery. Back seat passengers may benefit the most. They gain 4-zone climate control instead of a dual setup and powered and heated seats at every position.

The driver gains a heads-up display, a heated steering wheel, and a front cooler compartment to keep drinks at the ready.

The Metropolitan shares its drivetrain with the Discovery R-Dynamic. That gives it a 355 horsepower 3.0-liter 6-cylinder engine augmented with a 48V mild hybrid system. An 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel-drive are standard.

New 2022 model year cars are rolling into dealerships now, but Land Rover has already begun taking orders for the 2023 Discovery Metropolitan Edition. A Land Rover spokesperson tells us that buyers can expect delivery in the spring of 2022,  which may make it the first 2023 model to reach a buyer’s parking spot.
