  • A driver’s airbag defect prompted the recall and dealer stop-sale of JLR’s most popular models.
  • The recall covers Defender, Discovery, and Range Rover SUVs built between April 2019 and June 2026.
  • JLR dealers cannot sell any of the affected models currently on lots, but SUVs in production have been fixed and should reach dealer lots soon.

If you want to buy a new Land Rover SUV, your options will be limited. Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) issued a recall and dealer stop-sale on three of its most popular models in the Defender, Discovery, and Range Rover, according to a scoop from The Drive published Monday.

JLR confirmed to The Drive that a driver’s airbag system issue is affecting an uncertain number of Defender, Discovery, and Range Rover SUVs made from April 2019 through June 2026. Dealers have to stop selling affected models currently on their lots until new ones in production now with a fixed airbag system arrive in coming weeks.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has yet to document the recall, the number of affected vehicles, and the remedy. JLR indicated that it did not know of any issues in the real world and that the issue was discovered during an internal engineering analysis.

Owners can expect notification of the recall and its remedy soon, and like every other recall, the issue will be fixed at no cost to owners.

Range Rover accounts for the most significant slice of the Jaguar Land Rover brand, followed by the Defender series, then the Discovery 3-row SUV.

Millions of cars are recalled, sometimes more than once. While automakers do their best to notify every vehicle owner affected by a recall, they don’t always reach everyone.
