Set for its formal reveal in at the Geneva Motor Show, the new Lamborghini Huracan Performante raises the performance index of the “entry level” Raging Bull to higher levels. Seen here in prototype form, the new Performante reportedly boasts more power, less weight and a seriously revamped suspension along with an innovative new active aero setup that promises stunning road-holding capabilities.

Officially dubbed Aerodynamica Lamborghini Attiva – ALA for short – this new approach uses a trio of small electric motors to quickly, precisely and independently open or close air ducts located in the nose and tail of the Performante in a way that optimizes airflow to minimize lift and maximize downforce. The bulk of this aero magic takes place in the trick rear wing, which is mounted on hollow supports that can pass air up from a duct located behind the engine cover and into the main element where it gets directed it out through slots on either side. With the two rear motors regulating specific flow rates and responding to steering angle, the Performante’s ALA system helps it stay planted in a straight line as well as develop forces at the rear corners of the car that improve its high-speed cornering capability.

The Lamborghini Huracan Performante is expected to arrive here in the fall. We’ll know a lot more about all of the car’s innovative technology — including its expanded use of weight-reducing Forged Carbon components – when the wraps come off next month.
