- Kia Signature and Mohave Masterpiece bow in Seoul
- Compact Signature points to new small SUV entry
- New model set to bow later this year
- Mohave Masterpiece showcases rugged SUV cues
Kia unveiled a couple of SUV concepts at the Seoul Motor Show that point a to possible small crossover entry positioned beneath its compact Sportage as well as a rugged variant of the compact Mohave, which is sold in other global markets and at one time in the U.S. as the Borrego. While the Korean automaker touted the Mohave Masterpiece concept, the real star is the Kia Signature, which is says previews a new small SUV due later this year.
This potential entry-level crossover has a contemporary look and would fit well beneath the Sportage and may be a way to get into the all-wheel drive segment not currently served by the redesigned 2020 Soul. Among the styling cues that are hot in this competitive segment is the two-tone black roof treatment. The Signature also has a more aggressive, traditional SUV stance, which is a move away from the more car-influenced styling we’ve seen on crossovers, especially those in the small to compact segments.

The Masterpiece concept, on the other hand, shows off an even more macho SUV look for its successor to the global Mohave. With its a hard-core off-road look, the Masterpiece is distinguished by its bold “Tiger nose” grille framed in chrome with vertical chrome bars and multiple LED lighting elements. The LED lighting theme is carried over onto the rear. The off-road SUV theme is reinforced by the front skid plate and large wheel and tire package.
