Kia Forte Koup Finished

Despite having enjoyed its best sales year ever in 2016 and seeing that pace continue on through the first quarter of this year, Kia has confirmed the Forte Koup will be departing the lineup as soon as the remaining 2016 inventory is sold. Kia said the move is being made “to better align with our customers’ purchasing trends.”

The Koup’s fate may have been telegraphed when upgraded 2017 versions of the automaker’s popular compact Forte Sedan and Forte5 went on sale last year. While not without charm of its own, the rakish 2-door was far from the volume leader in the Forte family, and the increasing popularity of small crossover/SUVs further reduced its appeal among potential buyers. No doubt the arrival of the all-new Honda Civic Coupe and the addition of the Niro hybrid played a role in the timing of the Koup’s demise. Those who like the Koup should find some fairly attractive deals on closeout models.
