Kia EV9 Certified for 304 Mile Range

The sharp new 2024 Kia EV9 will travel up to 304 miles between charging sessions, the company announced this week.

The EV9 is the first 3-row electric vehicle (EV) from a non-luxury automaker. Thanks to its unorthodox design, it created a buzz before the first model appeared on U.S. roads. It’s composed of sharp angles emerging from curved sheet metal, cut by thin LEDs Kia designers liken to constellations.

The EV is about the size of the popular Kia Telluride but wraps 3-row SUV practicality in a unique package, hinting at its electric nature.

Kia has been dribbling out information about its big electric vehicle. Pricing came two weeks ago (it will start at $54,900 – inching into the luxury car price range). A plan for reservations, with a $750 refundable deposit, came earlier this week.

Kia has revealed ranges certified by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

The EV9 will come in five trim levels. The entry price applies to the Light RWD, which has a 76.1 kilowatt-hour (kWh) battery. Other models get a larger 99.8 kWh model.

Because the EV9 is the only 3-row electric car from a non-luxury automaker, there isn’t much competition to judge it against. The Tesla Model Y maxes out at 330 miles and can be equipped with a third row, but it’s a much smaller row unsuitable for adults. The Mercedes-Benz EQB has a similar kids-only third row and maxes out at just 245 miles. Rivian’s R1S finds room for a third row and a range of up to 400 miles with its optional Max Pack battery, but it starts at $78,000 and costs nearly six figures with the big battery.
