There are many new electric vehicles reaching the American market this year. One of the most compelling is the Kia EV6.
Reviewers love the sporty electric hatchback. Our test driver called it “possibly the boldest and most exciting move Kia has made.” It’s sexy, with low-slung lines and a sharp new design language Kia calls “digital tiger.” It’s available with anywhere from 167 to 576 horsepower. And it has an EPA-certified range of up to 310 miles.
Now, it has a price. Well, nearly every version of it has a price.
The EV6 will start at $40,900. That price will get you a single-motor, rear-wheel-drive (RWD) version with 167 horsepower and a range of 232 miles. It can charge its 58 kWh battery pack to 80% of its full capacity in just 18 minutes.
We’re still waiting for pricing info on the top-of-the-line EV6 GT. It boasts a bewildering-for-a-Kia 3.5-second 0-60 mph time and all-wheel-drive (AWD) grip. Kia hasn’t said when it would announce pricing on that model.
The EV6 shares most of its running gear with its corporate cousin, the Hyundai Ioniq 5. Kia’s price is now higher – the Hyundai starts at just $39,700. The Ioniq 5 has its own unique style, with a retro-digital look out of a 1990s video game and a surprisingly spacious cabin in a small car footprint. But buyers might be willing to pay a little more for the Kia’s undeniably sporty look.
Kia electric vehicles are eligible for the full $7,500 federal EV tax incentive.
