Kia confirms B-segment concept for Frankfurt

Offering an early look at a potential future small car that would be focused on coping with European urban environments, Kia plans to present its yet-unnamed B-segment concept at the Frankfurt Auto Show. Characterizing this stylish compact one-off as “playful but gutsy” and “sturdy yet impish,” Kia says it will encompass a number of “intriguing elements” not generally found in smaller cars, aimed at individualistic and demanding drivers who need a daily commuter with a decidedly modest footprint.

In addition to its modernist/minimalist interior design, the vehicle — which is believed to be a variation on the crossover theme – will feature a unique mix of materials in its exterior body panels and trim as well as dramatic front/rear lighting elements. One thing that does remain is the brand’s signature Peter Schreyer-penned grille shape. While Kia admits this show car isn’t likely to see production in its current configuration, the automaker does plan to use its appearance in Frankfurt to judge potential consumer response regarding several of the innovative ideas being introduced in the package.
