Chase Elliott, driver of the 24 Chevrolet SS in NASCAR’s Monster Energy Cup Series, took a huge step in qualifying for the Chase, the racing body’s “playoffs” that will be contested over the last 10 races of the season. Finishing 10th on points, he joins 15 other drivers in competing for the championship. Although he didn’t win a race so far this season (race winners are automatically included in the Chase), Elliott’s consistent performance in finishing races high in the standings earned him the berth. This is the second year for Elliott in a full Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series ride.
Kelley Blue Book is an associate sponsor for the team and the car will be painted in full KBB regalia for the second race of the Chase in the ISM Connect 300 at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon on September 24. It will be broadcast live on NBCSN starting at 2 p.m. Eastern. Elliott is currently 47 points behind Martin Truex, Jr. who leads in the standings.
The son of retired NASCAR champion Bill Elliott, Chase will not only transition along with other Chevrolet drivers to Camaro bodywork next season, but he also will change his number 24 — which had long been associated with Jeff Gordon — to 9, in honor of his father.
