Earlier this week, Jeep announced plans to invest $700 million to retool the Toledo Assembly Complex that has been the long-term home to Wrangler in preparation for building its next-gen successor. Today, it unveiled this one-off Wrangler 75th Salute Concept that recognizes the diamond anniversary of the iconic Jeep brand as well as to demonstrate the clear relationship Wrangler still shares with the original go-anywhere Willys MB light-reconnaissance military vehicle that started it all.

“Since they were first produced in 1941, Jeep vehicles have been the authentic benchmark for off-road capability, having mastered more terrain, led more adventures and provided drivers more freedom than any other vehicle before or since,” noted Mike Manley, Head of Jeep Brand — FCA Global at the reveal.

Based on a 2-door Wrangler Sport, the 75th Salute is finished in classic olive drab teamed with white lettering including the clever “20160715” birthday serial number. It rides on 16-inch steel wheels wrapped in 32-inch non-directional military-spec tires and boasts several other period touches including steel front and rear bumpers with tow hooks, exposed hood latches, a rear-mount spare tire and low-back canvas seats as well as bronze commemorative fender badges. Sadly, there are no plans to build even a limited series of 75th Salute Wranglers.
