Jeep’s first fully electric vehicle (EV) will launch by the end of 2023.
We’d love to tell you all about it, but for now, that’s nearly all anyone knows. Jeep hasn’t revealed its name. They haven’t revealed its price. They haven’t even given much of a gauge for understanding its size.
What Jeep has done is revealed two photos of the upcoming EV, which could only be a Jeep product. It bears an obvious family resemblance to the current lineup of Jeep SUVs. If you told us it was the next-generation Compass, we’d believe you.
It shares the X-tail-light pattern of the current Renegade, along with the two-tone roof treatment of the new Grand Cherokee and a very Compass-like silhouette. But, with nothing in the photos against which to judge its size, it could be anywhere from subcompact to quite large.
The photos came as part of a strategic plan announced by parent company Stellantis. The corporate giant, which also operates the Chrysler, Dodge, Ram, Fiat, and Alfa Romeo brands, plans for “100% of sales in Europe and 50% of sales in the United States to be battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) by the end of this decade.” The company says it will unveil “more than 75” EVs globally by 2030.
Stellantis has previously announced plans for an all-electric Ram pickup and the world’s first “electric muscle car” under the Dodge brand.
