Jeep recalled 24,238 Wrangler 4xe SUVs from model years 2023-2025 to address a software defect that can cause the vehicles to lose all power.

The Wrangler 4xe is capable of receiving software updates over the air. The company tells federal safety officials that it pushed out a software update earlier this month that inadvertently caused a communication error within critical software. It could trigger software to restart while driving, which could shut power down.

The company knows of no accidents or injuries, but hundreds of field reports of problems.

Jeep says it has already pushed out a temporary patch that should prevent the problem. Engineers are still developing a long-term solution, which will likely also be a remote software fix.
