- The Jeep Grand Cherokee gets a visual makeover and a new engine option for 2026
- The turbocharged Hurricane 4-cylinder engine is more potent than the V6 it replaces
Jeep today revealed an updated Grand Cherokee SUV for 2026, with a new face and a new base engine that is both more powerful and fuel-efficient than the available V6 equivalent.
More people drive off in a new Grand Cherokee than any other Jeep product. It’s among the 20 best-selling new vehicles in America.
So, Jeep makes changes to the Grand Cherokee carefully. The company will experiment with other models — see: the new range-extended powertrain option in the 2026 Grand Wagoneer. The Grand Cherokee only gets tried-and-true updates.
In the 2025 model year, it’s one of the last midsize SUVs not offered with a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. That will change for 2026. The new Grand Cherokee will be the first Jeep product to get parent company Stellantis’s new inline-4-cylinder turbocharged engine, dubbed the Hurricane 4.

The Hurricane 4 makes 324 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque. Jeep says a variable-geometry turbocharger gives it plenty of boost at low engine RPM for around-town power.
Buyers will also have the option of a 293-hp V6 — the Pentastar engine that has done reliable duty in Stellantis products since 2011.
Jeep will announce pricing on the model soon.
Tech Updates, Simplified Trim Lineup
- Other changes include an updated grille and headlights, and an optional passenger screen
Jeep designers have been propagating a new version of the brand’s iconic 7-slot grille across the lineup in recent years. It borrows from the all-electric Wagoneer S, using lighting instead of chrome.
It comes to the Grand Cherokee for 2026, alongside thin LED daytime running lights. The grille sits above a reworked lower air dam with more body-color surface than the 2025 model’s face had in that spot.

Inside, changes include a new 12.3-inch infotainment screen and an optional 10.25-inch passenger screen. A 19-speaker McIntosh premium sound system will be offered.
Jeep will offer just three trim levels — Laredo, Limited, and Summit.
The lengthened Grand Cherokee L will gets the same trims. The Grand Cherokee 4xe plug-in hybrid (PHEV) will appear in Limited, Summit, and high-performance Trailhawk models.
