Last seen in mild disguise when it co-starred with Santa in the automaker’s 2011 Christmas card, the production version of the 2013 Jaguar XF Sportbrake gets its full reveal in Geneva. Based on the Jaguar XF sedan, this more practical wagon variant looks every as smart and stylish as the original teaser indicated, but don’t expect it to be part of Jag’s U.S. lineup when it finally does go on sale in the fall.
Visually identical in to the XF Sedan from nose to B-pillar, from there back to its large, single-piece liftgate, every body panel is unique to the Sportbrake. Appearances aren’t all that have changed, as this high-lux hauler gets a major revamp to its chassis structure and extensively modified rear underpinnings that bring a self-leveling air suspension package including variable adaptive dampers. Jag says the combo gives the XF Sportbrake dynamic characteristics that nearly equal the XF Sedan while also allowing it "to serve as an accomplished tow vehicle."
Inside, the Jaguar XF Sportbrake offers 19.4 cu ft of stow space with the rear seats up, space that can be expanded to 59.2 cu ft when they’re folded flat using remote levers in the cargo bay. As with all good wagons, the Sportbrake also features a variety of cubbies and tie-downs as well as a covered storage area under the load floor and offers a power liftgate option. Motivation for the new Jaguar XF Sportbrake will come from a range of turbodiesel engines including a 2.2-liter four and 3.0-liter six, both backed by an eight-speed automatic transmission.
