With the arrival of its 2017 models, Jaguar Land Rover will become the first automaker to offer the advanced tracking app “Tile” as part of its InControl Touch and InControl Touch Pro infotainment systems. Available on all JLR models with the InControl Apps enabled, this Bluetooth-based software works with the owner’s smartphone to pinpoint the location of any personal item that’s been fitted with a small interactive tag. Using Tile allows the whereabouts of anything from keys to a wallet or purse to be instantly displayed on the vehicle’s touchscreen.

JLR data indicates the average person spends 15 minutes a day searching for various lost items. By using the capabilities of Tile, individuals can be notified if any item specified as “Essential” is not in the vehicle with them and get on-screen directions to its last-known location. Each Tile tag also has a built in alarm to help find objects that may have been temporarily misplaced inside of the vehicle. Currently downloadable, the new Tile smartphone app is compatible with both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay platforms and can be used to keep tabs on a nearly limitless number of items.
