Lexus makes the most dependable vehicles for sale in the United States, according to the 2021 edition of the J.D. Power U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study. Porsche and Kia placed and showed in the results.
Land Rover, Alfa Romeo, and Jaguar proved the least reliable out of 33 brands studied.
Tesla made an inauspicious debut of sorts in the rankings. The company’s results would have placed it 30th, had it been fully studied. However, the electric automaker refuses to grant J.D. Power permission to survey its owners in the 15 states where permission is required, so analysts placed an asterisk on their results for Tesla and left it out of the official tally.
The study analyzes survey responses from 35,251 owners of model year 2018 vehicles and assessed around 150 different models of car, truck, and SUV. The study measures dependability in “problems per 100 vehicles.”
Lexus has claimed the top spot in the study for nine of the last ten years.
Vehicle dependability is improving overall, according to the study. The average model saw 10 percent fewer problems per 100 vehicles than 2020 results showed.
