- Crossover based on new EV platform
- Part of aggressive 2021 electrification effort
- Celebrates Infiniti’s 30th anniversary at Detroit show
Infiniti has released a teaser image of a concept for an EV crossover SUV, which it will present at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit next month. The show car will also mark the 30th anniversary of Infiniti’s debut at the NAIAS in 1989.
The shadowy image shows a tall crossover that Infiniti says will ride on an all-new EV platform and heralds a future product from Nissan’s luxury division. According to Infiniti, “The advent of electrified platforms heralds a fresh approach to what crossover and sedan platforms look like, both inside and out. With new exterior proportions, electrification also gifts interior space, enabling spacious, and lounge-like interiors, rich in welcoming and assistive technologies.”
This concept is part of an aggressive electrification program announced by Infiniti where beginning in 2021 every vehicle introduced will have some form of electric hybrid or pure EV power. “The concept car we will show in Detroit is the beginning of a new era for Infiniti, and an illustration of where we want to go with the brand. Electrification and other new technologies have given us the opportunity to evolve our design philosophy,” said Karim Habib, the division’s executive design director.
