Ineos has recalled 7,022 Grenadier Station Wagon SUVs from model year 2024 because their doors can fly open while in motion. Also, dealers will stop delivering new Grenadiers to customers until they have fixed every car on their sales lots.
The company tells the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that, “On affected vehicles, the door button mechanism may have been assembled without a sufficient application of grease.” The button that opens the door can stay in the depressed position, allowing the doors to open while the car is in motion.
Ineos says owners might notice the problem, as the button won’t rise like it should and the door may not sound like it latches closed.
“A visual warning will appear on the vehicle’s head unit if a door is not fully closed. If the vehicle begins to move with the door still not fully closed, the message will turn red and display the word warning followed by audible alerts.”
Dealers will fix the issue by replacing the door button assembly.
