Hyundai teases images of its upcoming Kona N SUV, the second vehicle from the brand’s high-performance N division to reach the U.S. The Kona N is a step up from the Kona N-line, a more cosmetic performance package revealed earlier this year.
Outside, the N sports a unique, stylized chain-link grille pattern, and larger lower air intakes. A front splitter features red accents, as does the N badge mounted to the grille. Red striping runs along the side skirts, reaching the rear diffuser. Body-color fender flares also set it apart from the base Kona. So do a rear wing split by a triangular brake light and large exhaust tips.
Mechanical details are unofficial, but the Kona N is largely may borrow its powertrain from the Hyundai Veloster N. That would give it a 275-horsepower, turbocharged 4-cylinder engine and an option of either a 6-speed manual or 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. It will most likely come only in front-wheel drive, but include a retuned suspension for sportier handling.
We expect to see the Kona N for sale near the end of 2021, with a price tag of approximately $35,000.
