Hyundai recalled 135,386 Santa Fe SUVs from model years 2024-2025 because an improperly installed engine part can lead to an engine fire.
The company tells federal safety officials that a cover over the cars’ starter motors may not be seated properly. If it comes into contact with the cooling fan assembly during a minor crash, it could trigger a short circuit and a fire.
The company knows of no injuries related to the problem, but it happened during a recent crash test.
Dealers will fix it by reinstalling the cover, seating it correctly.
By law, dealers never charge for recall repairs.
