Feature and equipment updates top the list of changes to the 2020 Hyundai Elantra. In addition to new safety equipment including forward collision-avoidance, lane keeping assist and driver attention warning, the new Elantra replaces its 6-speed automatic with a continuously variable transmission to boost combined fuel economy by 2 mpg. There are few if any styling changes to the new model.
How much does the 2020 Hyundai Elantra cost?
Base price of the 2020 Hyundai Elantra is $18,950 for the SE model. That’s an increase from the 2019 starting price of $17,200 due primarily from dropping the standard 6-speed manual transmission in favor of the new CVT as well as new standard equipment.
Prices are up marginally on other models like the SEL, which is $200 more at $19,700. On that model the CVT replaces a standard 6-speed automatic transmission. The Value model sees only a $100 increase to $20,600. The Sport and Eco models, which retain their 7-speed dual clutch transmissions are priced at $22,800 and $21,250 respectively. The Sport model is no longer available with a manual. The range-topper is the Limited with the CVT, which is priced at $23,800, an $1,100 increase. All prices exclude $920 delivery.
New features
In addition to the new standard safety features, Elantra Limited models with the Ultimate package come with smart cruise control, safe exit assist that sounds a warning when the vehicle is being approached from behind and forward collision-avoidance assist with pedestrian detection. Blind-spot collision warning with rear cross-traffic alert and lane change assist are available on all trims except SE.
New standard features include a 3.5-inch TFT display in the instrument cluster, engine idle stop and go on Eco models and dual automatic climate control.

Three engines
SE, SEL, Value Edition and Limited trims come with a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine making 147 horsepower. The Eco model has a 1.4-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder making 128 horsepower, while the 2020 Elantra Sport has a 1.6-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder making 201 horsepower. That engine is mated to a 7-speed dual clutch transmission. Sport models include paddle shifters, sport front seats with leather trim, a flat-bottom leather clad steering wheel and sport instrumentation. These versions are also equipped with an independent rear suspension.
What’s the fuel economy of the 2020 Hyundai Elantra?
Fuel economy is improved by 2 mpg for an EPA combined rating of 34 mpg on SEL, Value Edition and Limited models. The base SE is also 2 mpg better for a 35-mpg combined rating. The Eco model, which is equipped with the 7-speed dual clutch transmission has a combined rating of 36 mpg.
