Honda’s Racing Division to Sell Parts for Road Cars

You’ve probably seen a thousand Honda and Acura cars tuned with aftermarket performance parts in your life. But you’ve never seen one tuned with genuine Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) parts. Soon, you will.

Honda announced this week that its North American racing arm, famed for its IndyCar presence, will “create a new business to produce authentic performance parts for customer use for street, track, and off-road applications.”

The company didn’t say which cars would get aftermarket packages. But it made the decision after a prototype of an Acura Integra Type S modified with HRC parts generated “strong interest” at this year’s Monterey Car Week.

We’d expect to see Integra and Honda Civic Type R packages, at least. But HRC-branded off-road gear for the brand’s increasing lineup of TrailSport models seems logical, too.

The announcement comes ahead of next week’s SEMA show (formerly the Specialty Equipment Manufacturer’s Association, SEMA now says its name is not an acronym). Automakers typically bring outlandish concept vehicles to SEMA that will never be offered for sale.

Honda plans a full lineup of HRC models at the show, including a Ridgeline-based Baja racer and a Pilot HRC prototype.
