Honda Plans New Hybrid

In addition to unveiling the new 2018 Odyssey minivan, Honda used its appearance at the North American International Auto Show in to discuss its plans for a hybrid-heavy tomorrow as part of its Honda Electrification Initiative. A key reveal is the development of an all-new, dedicated hybrid model that will be built at an existing plant here in America and roll into showrooms across the country sometime in 2018.

Save for noting this newcomer would be fitted with Honda’s latest 2-motor hybrid system found in the new Accord Hybrid, the automaker offered no other specifics. However, it did state the same powertrain would also make its way into the light truck side of the lineup in the near future.

"Half of the all-new models Honda will launch in the United States in the coming two years will be electrified vehicles," said Takahiro Hachigo, President & CEO of Honda Motor Co., Ltd. "In the long term, electrified vehicles are key to the future of carbon-free mobility." Honda has established a global target of having two-thirds of all of its vehicle sales come from “electrified” models by 2030 an to cut its CO2 emissions level by 50 percent from 2000 to 2050.
