Calling it a study model that offers an alternative look at a potential vehicle transportation alternative for young, urban, Gen-Y lifestyles, the Honda GEAR Concept made its global debut at Montreal International Auto Show. Inspired by fixed-gear bicycles, Honda says the subcompact-scaled GEAR Concept melds simplicity with an exceptional level of personalization potential, although it provided no detail specifics, nor gave any hint of whether a GEAR-like vehicle is actually being considered for of inclusion in the automaker’s future production portfolio.
"Subcompact cars are usually either utilitarian, but uninspiring or they’re fun, zippy cars that are impractical and too expensive for the Gen-Y buyer," said Dave Marek, Design Director at Honda R&D Americas, Inc. at the reveal. "GEAR Concept tears down those walls – it’s practical but fun, customizable, connected and affordable. Everything that young, discerning urban buyers would want in a car."
