Honda confirmed it will unveil the Clarity Electric and Clarity Plug-in Hybrid models in April at the New York Auto Show. Set to launch later this year, Honda says the 2017 Clarity Electric will be the “the first affordable, midsize, five-passenger battery electric vehicle” although it stopped short of offering any info as to on the car’s expected EV range or whether it will be sold in all 50 states.

We do know a bit more about the 2018 Honda Clarity Plug-in Hybrid. Arriving in showrooms from coast to coast either very late in 2017 or early next year, the Plug-in Hybrid is set to become the volume leader in the super-efficient Clarity family and be fitted with a “hyper-efficient” gasoline/electric package that promises to deliver “an all-electric driving range rating in excess of 40 miles.”

Although it’s hard to tell from the teaser image, Honda says each version of the Clarity will feature its own specific subtle styling flourishes. Like the Clarity Fuel Cell, the Electric and Plug-in Hybrid will boast a comprehensive array of standard equipment to complement sporty driving dynamics. That feature set includes the Display Audio infotainment system with support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay as well as Honda Sensing safety and driver-assistive technologies.
