Acura brought its beloved Integra compact luxury sedan back for 2023. A resurrection of the company’s most sentimental product, it’s exactly like the Integras you remember from the 1990s – a dressed up Honda Civic with attitude.
What’s Acura’s next trick? Bringing back the high-performance Integra. Today Acura announced that an Integra Type S will join the lineup for 2024.
Promising “ultimate street performance and driver engagement,” Acura says the Type S “will be powered by a high-revving 2.0-liter VTEC turbocharged engine producing over 300 horsepower and paired exclusively with a 6-speed manual and limited-slip differential.”
If you think that sounds suspiciously like the powertrain behind the recently revealed Honda Civic Type R, you think like we do. The Type R’s 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder makes 315 horsepower, and its 6-speed manual includes a rev-matching function. Both would be right at home in a modern Integra Type S.
What would differentiate the Acura from the Civic? Bodywork and style choices.
Alongside a spartan press release, Acura sent photos of the Integra Type S in testing. Curiously, they left it wrapped in camouflage for its media debut (look at me! I’m hiding!)
But the photos show enough for us to know the Type S wears a completely different front fascia than today’s Integra, with a wider stance bulging out over tires that may be as big as 20 inches. The rear is subtle, with a small lip spoiler rather than a big, fight-picking wing. But three exhaust tips and a wide-set diffuser make its performance intentions clear.
The Integra Type S arrives next summer, Acura says.
