For heavy-duty pickup shoppers, torque and towing are vital. People may sometimes buy a standard pickup as a family vehicle they rarely use for work. But almost no one buys a dually pickup with no plans to tow anything. So, the news of a new towing champion is practical information. We have a new heavy-duty towing champion.
According to figures the automaker released today, the 2021 Ram 3500 Heavy Duty can now out-pull anything in its class. Designers left the truck’s 6.7-liter Cummins inline-6 intact, but improved the turbocharger and the fuel injection to boost torque by 75 lb-ft, and beefed up its gooseneck hitch. In real-world terms, that brings the Ram’s towing up to 37,100 pounds – 100 pounds more than the previous title holder, the Ford F-250 Super Duty.
The 2021 model will reach dealerships soon, but, today, all Ram dealers could offer you is a 2020 Ram 3500 Heavy Duty. It’s nothing to be ashamed of, though, with its 35,100-pound towing capacity, and you’re likely to be able to talk dealers down a bit more on price now that its replacement is on the way, and winning headlines.
