GMC recalled 354 Hummer EV pickups and SUVs from the 2026 model year because a wiring problem might keep their front passenger airbags from deploying in an accident.
The company tells federal safety officials that “the front passenger airbag connection in these vehicles may have an improper wire crimp, which under some conditions could interfere with signals to the airbag.”
The supplier that produces the harness had an equipment failure, and “implemented a manual crimping process during a three-day period,” the company says. GMC learned of the change when a factory worker spotted a crimp that looked wrong and flagged the issue.
GMC is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to the issue. But, to be safe, company engineers decided to replace all the manually crimped wiring harnesses with parts that have been through the approved process.
