GM Recalls EVs Over Tire Tread Separation

Cadillac and Chevrolet have recalled 22,914 electric vehicles (EVs) because tread can separate from their tires. That can compromise vehicle handling and create a road hazard.

Recalled models include some, but not all, examples of the:

All of the recalled models have 21-inch wheels.

Tire manufacturer Continental tells General Motors it briefly produced some tires “with a nonconforming tread base rubber compound.” They “may exhibit localized tread wear, excessive vibration, noise, and/or bulging in the tread area” before the tread finally separates.

Dealers will replace all four tires to fix the problem.
