As part of a broad-ranging multi-year enhancement program set to run through 2018, General Motors will invest $1 billion to revamp its sprawling 326-acre Warren Technical Center in Michigan. Currently home to over 19,000 GM employees and on the list of National Historic Landmark sites, the Tech Center work force will rise by roughly 2,600 when the work is finally completed.

Key improvements to the operation which originally opened in 1956 will focus on constructing new design studios and a multi-story IT building as well as the creation of new testing areas to support the automaker’s Advanced Energy Center. The ambitious undertaking also encompasses rebuilding and renovating some existing R&D facilities along with a general upgrading of the office facilities.
