Genesis Issues Bizarre Recall for Silver G90 Sedans

The Genesis G90 in white seen from a front quarter angle

Genesis this week ordered one of the strangest recalls we’ve seen. The luxury division of Hyundai recalled 483 G90 sedans from model years 2023-2026, but only those painted in the shade the company calls Saville Silver.

They can detect phantom cars that aren’t there.

The company tells the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that radar signals emitted by the cars’ Highway Driving Assist system can reflect off the car’s own silver paint – specifically, at the corners of the bumper cover. The system interprets that as a car cutting into its lane and brakes to avoid an accident.

To fix the problem, dealers will seal the front bumper beam. In the meantime, the company says it “advises all owners to refrain from using the HDA feature on their vehicles until the remedy has been performed.”

By law, dealers never charge for recall repairs.

Manufacturers recall many cars, often more than once, during their lifespan. Automakers try to contact every owner but don’t always reach them all. Discover if your vehicle has any outstanding recalls with the easy-to-use vehicle identification number (VIN) tool at our recall center.
