Genesis made its bones building luxury cars that compete with the best Germany and Japan have to offer, then pricing them lower than their rivals. The company shows no signs of breaking the habit. It has just announced pricing for the 2022 GV70 premium compact SUV.
Despite elegance to rival the BMW X3 and Audi Q5, Genesis’ new little crossover comes in below them at just $41,000 (plus a $1,045 destination fee).
Genesis has begun taking reservations for the GV70 but has not revealed when deliveries will begin.
As if the value proposition weren’t good enough at that level, the GV70 includes complimentary scheduled maintenance and at-home pick-up for 3 years or 36,000 miles.
The GV70 comes standard with a 2.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that puts out 300 horsepower. A 3.5-liter turbocharged V6 is also available. That one gets you 375 horsepower. Both engines employ the same 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel-drive (AWD) system.
Five trim levels – Standard, Select, Advanced, Sport Advanced, and Sport Prestige – give buyers an array of choices. But even the least-expensive GV70 comes with a full suite of active safety systems that includes lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, driver attention warning, blind-spot collision avoidance assist, and rear cross-traffic collision avoidance assist.
It’s a compelling package that should win the attention of new buyers. We’re particular fans of the color palette Genesis offers, which ventures into territory most automakers avoid. You can buy a GV70 with blue, green, or purple leather.
