- Magma represents high-performance line of Genesis luxury vehicles
- The EV shares DNA with Hyundai’s N performance models
- GV60 Magma makes up to 640 hp, does 0-60 mph in 3.4 seconds
Genesis debuted the GV60 Magma high-performance EV in France on Thursday. Shifting from concept to production, the GV60 Magma ushers in the brand’s first performance model and previews what’s to come for the next decade of Hyundai’s luxury brand.
“Through Magma, we’re injecting adrenaline into the Genesis DNA while preserving the elegance and balance that define true luxury,” Luc Donckerwolke, president and chief creative officer of Genesis, said in a statement.
The low-slung GV60, which is marketed as a crossover SUV but functionally is more like a hatchback, might be the ideal candidate to launch a performance line to take on BMW’s M division, Mercedes-Benz’s AMG brand, and Audi’s RS line.
Like the GV60 Magma Concept that Genesis showcased at the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed in England, the production model wore a blazing Magma Orange coat. Genesis redesigned the front bumper of the regular GV60 EV to improve airflow and cooling. Gloss-black moldings and dark metal accents were added to the front and rear ends and window trim. It sits nearly 0.8 inch lower, to 5.6 inches of ground clearance. Flexed wheel arches house 21-inch forged wheels with 10.8-inch-wide performance tires by Pirelli. The tipped wing spoiler generates downforce and the diffuser on the rear bumper helps with aero.

Genesis GV60 Magma Performance Specs
The GV60 Magma benefits from some elements shared with Hyundai’s N performance models. A dual-motor all-wheel-drive (AWD) system generates up to 640 horsepower and 583 lb-ft of torque in Boost Mode (instead of N Grin Boost on the Ioniq 5 N) on its way to a top speed of 164 mph. With Launch Control activated, it zips from 0 to 125 mph in 10.9 seconds, and the 0-60 mph time is estimated to be 3.4 seconds.
That may not be as blistering as the Porsche Macan EV Turbo (3.1 seconds), but we hope the GV60 Magma will cost less than the $106,000 tag of the Macan EV.
Genesis said the chassis is tuned specifically for the Magma, and it bolstered the braking system, including the addition of massive 15.7-inch rotors up front. Other enhancements include customizable drive modes to adjust the electronic limited-slip differential and the stability control system for varied driving behavior. A virtual gear shifter simulates eight gears, even though it’s a single-speed transmission. Unlike the Ioniq 5 N, however, the feature adjusts torque, motor output, and regenerative braking to simulate the sensation of shifting. That might pair better with the combustion engine soundtrack piped through the audio system.
If that sounds silly to you, as it did to us, it’s kind of fun in reality. So is the Drift Mode that cuts traction control systems and dials up the differential setting to enable drifting.

GV60 Magma Battery Pack, Range, and Charging
The Magma has the same 84-kWh battery pack as the standard GV60, though Genesis optimized the battery and thermal management systems to handle the heat generated by the motors.
It uses the brand’s 800-volt architecture that enables one of the quickest DC fast charging times, from 10% to 80% in 18 minutes. Range estimates have not been disclosed, but a GT Mode helps with efficiency, Genesis says. The GV60 AWD Performance, which is the closest thing to the GV60 Magma, has a 252-mile range. We expect the official estimate to be about 220 miles.
The Genesis GV60 Magma is slated to go on sale in the U.S. in 2026 as a 2027 model. Expect pricing to be announced nearer to the on-sale date.
