Genesis: Electrified GV70 Gets Tax Credit; We’ll Be All-Electric By 2030

The 2023 Genesis Electrified GV70 under assembly in a Montgomery, Alabama factoryGenesis will sell an all-electric lineup by 2030, the company tells Kelley Blue Book.

The company joins Volvo, Mercedes, and others in making the 2030 pledge.

The luxury division of Hyundai Motor Company produced its first all-electric model in the United States this week.

First Electrified GV70 Built in Alabama

The 2023 Genesis Electrified GV70 is an all-electric version of the GV70, our Best Buy Award winner in the compact luxury SUV class.

This week, the first example rolled off a production line in Montgomery, Alabama, as a Kelley Blue Book reporter watched. The Montgomery plant also builds the Hyundai Elantra sedan, Santa Cruz pickup truck, and Santa Fe and Tucson SUVs.

The Electrified GV70 is AWD-only. A pair of electric motors, one per axle, produces 429 horsepower in regular driving and can surge to 483 hp for 10 seconds with a Boost Mode function enabled.

Genesis claims it can sprint from a standstill to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds, making it quicker than the gas-powered GV70. The company says it has a range of about 248 miles in Korean government testing. Korean government tests often produce numbers similar to what the U.S. EPA finds in its testing.

It starts at $65,850, with prices climbing to nearly $75,000 when fully equipped. Because it’s built in the U.S. and priced under $80,000, it qualifies for a $7,500 federal electric vehicle (EV) tax credit to help cut that price for many buyers.

That makes it the first Hyundai Motor Group vehicle to qualify. The company’s other EVs, including the Hyundai Ioniq 5 (our Best New Model) and the 2023 Kia EV6 (winner of the North American Utility Vehicle of the Year award), are all built overseas, so their buyers don’t get the discount.
