Genesis Builds Cheaper, Longer Range GV60

2023 Genesis GV60

The GV60 is already the least expensive model in the growing Genesis electric lineup. But the luxury marque of Hyundai is about to make it a little cheaper and extend its range in the process.

Genesis has released a new trim level of the cute little electric hatchback, and it’s a welcome change. Our expert test driver got in the GV60 and found that “Acceleration is phenomenal. Grip is phenomenal. The steering feels quick and precise, with a pleasant weight to it.” But he also noted that many rivals started more affordable.

The new GV60 Standard rear-wheel drive (RWD) will help with that problem. It starts at $52,000 — more than $8,000 under than the previous low-end model.

With just one motor rather than the two found on most models, the output is down to 255 horsepower (other models get 315 and 429). But the range is up to 294 miles — 46 more than any dual-motor version.

The car isn’t currently eligible for the $7,500 federal EV tax credit because it’s built outside North America. But Genesis has plans to build the GV60 in Alabama eventually.

Genesis has been steadily adding to the list of states where the GV60 is available. But it’s still sold in less than half the states.

Dealers in Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin can order the model.
